Images are a powerful entities that can evoke an immediate, unbiased emotional response. They can make us laugh, cry, ponder, change a belief, or move us to action.
Every piece I create tries to impart three attributes:
1) Immediately draw your attention
2) Evoke an strong emotional response,
3) Connect you to a past experience, sensually and/or cognitively
When people tell me the fruit in my painting makes their mouth water or that it looks good enough to eat, then I know I have captured a moment in time.
Recently a viewer remarked that an image I had painted of a Sadhu (Hindu Holy Man) in 2008 was very unsettling . As we chatted, she became more and more uncomfortable with the image. She kept repositioning herself until her back was to the image. Not all emotions felt are happy ones. Others remark the image was very strong, intense in nature. And still others proclaim that he is not holy at all!
Take a moment to look at my gallery of pictures. Perhaps you too will experience an emotional response. If you have one, let me know. I would love to hear from you.

Biography
After studying art throughout High School, I attended college where I applied my other passion, science. I graduated in 1979 as a Medical Technologist. For the next 20 years I advanced to the level of Chief Technologist and obtained my MBA, Project Management and Adult Education Certification. I have spent the last 10 years as a Business Coaching helping companies implement positive change initiatives.Recently I moved to the Buckhorn-Peterborough area and love it! The Kawartha area artistic community is very supportive and continues to provide me with ongoing inspiration . I am currently a member of the Kawartha Artists Gallery & Studio.
I continue to be inspired by the artists of the Baroque period. When I was in my teens I would try and copy the paintings of Rembrant, Vermeer, Gainsborough and Van Dyck. I would try different brush strokes and color combinations to imitate the brilliant hues in the sky, the intense gloss of an apple or soft textue of satin. I discovered that light and dark were partners in bringing a painting to life. I loved the way I could play with the oils to gain different effects.
In the last four years I have focused on my passion for watercolor. I love the unpredictable nature of the medium! However I am still influenced by my "oily" past. People who view my work comment that it has an "oil painting" texture. This is very different from current watercolor techniques. I am about to embark on a series which is more fluid and flowing. I hope I go all the way - total abstract - what an adventure!! My current work strives to portray those
people and images that touch my heart and provide me with new artistic challenges. My favorites are
moody portraits, water sports, still life from the kitchen and stunning flowers from my garden.

Buckhorn Garden Tour - July 11, 2010
The garden tour this weekend was the first of many and a great success. I had the privilege of donating a painting for the winning garden by Vicky Johnston and Jim Armstrong of Fireroute 26, Buckhorn. Thanks to Janet Clarkson and the Bayside Boutique for framing my masterpiece. Big congratulations too for Tony Sinclair (amazing master gardener) who pulled off this successful event. Way to go Tony!!

My Gallery
I love orchids. There is something so delicate and tropical about them. I think they must have been God's favorite flower in the garden. However, lilies are a very close second and first place in my outdoor garden.
I wanted to create a more abstract, scattered feeling that I get when I see a field of daisies. Often there are just so many that I will never see them all!
Blue poppies always seem so mystical to me. When I see them I almost expect a fairy to pop out from behind them.
